The Big Banquet Makes a Comeback

Big banquets make us happy!

JING SAYS...
A few months back, Erika and I spent our weekend getting stuffed silly by the best caterers in the land at The Blue Leaf Pavilion. It was The Big Banquet, the first gathering of its kind in the country with 11 caterers banging out their best dishes. I've gone to numerous food tastings before, on account of work, but I loved how this particular banquet was set up. Each caterer had a pop up restaurant of sorts complete with table settings and hot plates. Eka and I had fun making like food critics as we were given score cards to rate each dish. Fun!

ERIKA SAYS...
At TJIOE, the Barbeque Short Ribs were really tender! Yum! Mom was excited to try Florabel's Roast Black US Angus Steak, but it turned out to be a little tough.

JING SAYS...
It had rested too long. I'd rather have it rare, but maybe not a lot of guests would have wanted that. The cucumber drink at Bizu was very refreshing, but I found that the Smoked Salmon was doused with too much cream. Feeling food critic talaga! Mwahahaha

ERIKA SAYS...
That's what we noticed actually, people were having real conversations about food, which was great!

JING SAYS...
We all wanted to give the most honest feedback that we can on our scorecards!

ERIKA SAYS...
Juan Carlo had a smooth and suave panna cotta in Coffee Magnifico, one of our faves. We also liked the Sundried Tomato and Cream Cheese Stuffed Roast Chicken over at Josiah's. It was really flavorful.

JING SAYS...
Over at Hizon's, they had a 48-Hour Roasted US Beef Belly. It was pure love: tender, juicy, right to the bite (Ay, wait parang hotdog commercial! Mwahaha). But guess what? There was something even better: Albergus' Slow Roast US Beef Belly with Pesto Mashed Potatoes! Finally, beef that was cooked right! Plus, they had a Red Velvet Dessert too! Instant fan!!

ERIKA SAYS...
Other dishes that we liked: Paella Soup at K by Cunanan, Eastern Shrimp Rolls at Center Table, and the Arroz Con Leche at Red Chef!

The best news is that there's going to be a round two! Yes, The Big Banquet returns, this time at The Blue Leaf Filipinas in Aseana City, Paranaque. My friend Jessica and I are going; Mom will be meeting up with her college friends, so I get to stuff myself silly all over again! See you there!
